Belgrade, June 9 – New project PERFORM - Performing and responsible social sciences – was launched today at a conference in Hotel Zira, a four-year project whose goal is strengthening of the role of social sciences in reform processes, decision making, and public debates.

The conference was jointly opened by Mr Srdjan Verbic, Minister of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia and H.E. Jean-Daniel Ruch, Swiss Ambassador to Serbia and to Montenegro.
Conference participants discussed main problems and challenges that constrain the decision making process in Serbia being more founded on science research results, as well as the position of social sciences in Serbia, especially in the light of European Integration process and reforms.
PERFORM will support measures directed toward improvement of the quality of social science research and mechanisms and systems for linking the research sector with the policy-making sector. With the aim of designing and implementing concrete interventions for improving the quality and impact of social science research, the Project will cooperate with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development, social science institutes, universities, Civil Society Organisation, and public administration.
This four-year project is financed by Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and implemented by HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation in partnership with the University of Fribourg in Switzerland.
